News has now emerged that Netherlands is looking at blockchain based solutions to solve border control issues. Netherlands is contemplating a pilot blockchain-based identity management system across the country’s borders. Essentia One, a blockchain solutions firm will help the country in implementing this system at every checkpoint or cross-over station. The Dutch Justice and Security Ministry along with the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water (Transport) also listened to Essentia One’s proposal for implementation of a Blockchain based identity verification system for passengers travelling in transnational trains that connect multiple countries and jurisdictions. At present, all passengers are made to deboard at each country to verify their identity resulting in delays. This could be eliminated by using an immutable Blockchain based system all countries can access in real time.
The Ministry of Justice and Security has stated that it’s considering the company’s proposals and has called for more innovative blockchain based solutions to national issues. The Ministry has also asked the firm to prepare for more such presentations on a nationwide scale.
